Bernd Wiesberger, Benjamin Hebert lead Porsche European Open

Bernd Wiesberger and Benjamin Hebert shoot matching 64s to share the first-round lead at the Porsche European Open at the Bad Griesbach Golf Resort.

Bernd Wiesberger has fired a bogey-free 64 to share the lead with Benjamin Hebert after the opening round of the European Open in Germany.

The world number 30, a winner two months ago at the Open de France, posted three birdies in his final four holes to match the early clubhouse leader on seven-under at the Bad Griesbach Golf Resort on Thursday.

Herbert had posted eight gains and one blemish to set the early pace, with English pair Graeme Storm and Richard Bland part of a four-way tie one shot off the lead.

Storm and Bland are joined on six-under by Australia's Richard Green and South Africa's Darren Fichardt, who closed a blemish-free round by finishing with a gain at the ninth.

Course designer Bernhard Langer of Germany is a further shot back on five-under after a round of 66, the same total as Hunter Mahan.

The American began his back nine by picking up six shots in four holes, a run which included eagles on the par-five 10th and 12th holes.

Meanwhile, former US Open champion Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland returned to action for the first time since the US PGA Championship with a three-under-par round of 68.
