Luke Donald has said that he is pleased with the start he has made to the US Open in Pennsylvania.
The 35-year-old - still searching for his first Major title - is four-under through 13 holes at Merion, but must return for the completion of his first round tomorrow morning.
"I'm excited to get off to a great start," Donald told reporters. "I feel like I'm in pretty good control of my game.
"If you're ever going to go low I think today was a good day. The course is soft and you can take advantage of the holes you want to take advantage of.
"I'm happy with the way I'm playing, giving myself opportunities. I didn't get into too much trouble."
Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson are both on three-under-par, although the Australian also has to complete his first round tomorrow morning.
