Keegan Bradley is the surprise choice to lead USA against Europe in the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York.

Keegan Bradley has been named as the captain of the USA team for the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.

After the success in Rome last year, Luke Donald remaining as the skipper of Europe effectively became a foregone conclusion.

However, there has been much speculation about the American side, with it initially suggested that Tiger Woods would take over from Zach Johnson.

Instead, it was revealed on Monday that Bradley would be handed the reins - a surprise selection given that he is only 38 years of age.

The 2011 US PGA Championship winner only narrowly missed out on the 2023 team and would have hoped to earn a third appearance in New York.

While there is a slim chance that Bradley could participate as a playing captain should he be in form, the current plan is for him to oversee matters on the sidelines.

What did Bradley have to say?

Speaking after the announcement, Bradley said: "My passion and appreciation for golf's greatest team event have never been stronger.

"The Ryder Cup is unlike any other competition in our sport. And this edition will undoubtedly be particularly special given the rich history and enthusiastic spectators at this iconic course. I look forward to beginning preparations."

Bradley - the world number 19 - is currently on a run of having made eight successive cuts, a streak that includes a tied-second at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Furthermore, a share of 18th and 32nd have been posted at the US PGA Championship and US Open, and he will have ambitions to challenge at the upcoming Open Championship.

As a player at the Ryder Cup, Bradley boasts a 4-3-0 record from the 2012 and 2014 editions.
