Interview: Georgina Hockenhull

Sports Mole asks Team GB artistic gymnast Georgina Hockenhull about her experience of the European Games in Baku so far.

Team GB artistic gymnast Georgina Hockenhull has been looking to build on her Commonwealth Games bronze-medal glory over the past two days at the inaugural European Games in Baku.

Despite Britain struggling in the overall team standings, the 18-year-old was able to evoke memories of last year's competition in Glasgow with strong individual performances on the beam and floor.

With the results across all of the events still waiting to come in, Sports Mole caught up with Hockenhull to ask her about her experience in the Azerbaijani capital so far.

What's your assessment of these past few days, both from an individual and team perspective?

"I was a bit disappointed with yesterday. I had a fall and a mistake on the bars, but today I'm much happier. I managed to do a new beam routine, I stayed on and did my best, while on the floor I was very clean."

How did you feel coming into today?

"I'm probably one of the worst in the team for getting nervous, but I managed to calm myself a bit more today than I did yesterday."

How have you found everything so far in terms of Baku, the competition and the athletes village?

"It's so amazing, seeing all of the other athletes around. You see a lot of them on the television, but you never think you'll actually meet them!"
