Danny Kerry urges improved Australia performance

England women's hockey coach Danny Kerry says that his side must improve on their Malaysia win in order to beat Australia tomorrow.

England women's hockey coach Danny Kerry has warned his team that a big improvement is needed in order to stifle free-scoring Australia on Monday.

Kerry's side extended their unbeaten start to the Commonwealth Games by thrashing Malaysia 5-0 to seal a morale-boosting win ahead of tomorrow clash with the Aussies.

Australia have hit no fewer than 22 goals in their three Group B games thus far, and Kerry says that his ladies must play better than they did today to stand any chance of a result.

"I thought we were very solid. Malaysia kept a lot of players behind the ball and we had to work hard on creating the openings in play," he told reporters.

"Across the 70 minutes we managed to create a reasonable amount and it's good to get five goals, but we will have to be much slicker if we are going to score past Australia."

Tomorrow's encounter is scheduled to begin at 2pm.
