England make winning start against Wales in women's hockey

Alex Danson and Nicola White score for England in their 2-0 win over Wales in the women's hockey event at the Commonwealth Games.

England's women have made a winning start to the pool stage of the hockey event at the Commonwealth Games with a 2-0 win over Wales this lunchtime.

In a hard-fought match, Alex Danson opened the scoring in the first half, making the most of a defensive error by the Welsh side to fire into the top corner.

Wales pushed to get back into the tie after the break, but Nicola White pounced from a penalty corner to double England's lead and seal the victory.

The two sides will also face Australia, Malaysia and Scotland in Pool B.
