The son of British music legend Rod Stewart has been named in the Great Britain ice hockey squad for next month's World Championships in Holland.

Liam Stewart has represented Great Britain at youth level and has been called up to the senior squad for the first time by head coach Pete Russell.

He plays for US team Spokane Chiefs in the Western Hockey League, North America's third tier of ice hockey, and was named assistant captain of the team two seasons ago.

"We have players returning with good international experience and we have some new blood coming into the fold as well, which is exciting," Russell told the Daily Record. "We have a good mix of speed, skill, power and grit."

Great Britain will warm up for the World Championships with matches against Poland on April 9 and 10.
