Russia beat Norway to reach ice hockey quarter-finals

The Russian Federation qualify for the ice hockey quarter-finals by beating Norway in a playoff.

Host nation Russian Federation have qualified for the ice hockey quarter-finals with a 4-0 win over Norway in the qualification playoff on Tuesday.

The Russians had been disappointed to have to go through the playoffs, but despite an edgy first period they were too strong for the Norwegians.

It took 24 minutes for the first goal of the contest, with Alexander Radulov scoring before Ilya Kovalchuk added a second just before the end of the period.

From that point on the Russians were able to calm the match down, before picking the attacking Norwegians off twice inside the final two minutes to take the win 4-0. Radulov added his second before Alexei Tereshenko finished things off.

Russia will now face Finland on Wednesday in their last-eight match.
