Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Gasan Magomedov has been shot dead while driving near his home in the Dagestan region of Russia this weekend.

The club, who were relegated from the Russian top flight last season, announced that the 20-year-old died while being transported to hospital, after his car had been sprayed with machine-gun fire on Saturday.

Anzhi added that there was no clear motive for the attack, and that no arrests have been made.

Magomedov was a regular for the club's youth and reserve teams this season.
