Andy Murray plans to spend this year's Christmas at home in Scotland and looks forward to enjoying some free time with his girlfriend Kim Sears.

Andy Murray has said that he plans to spend this year's Christmas at home with his family in Scotland.

The 25-year-old is also keen to take an extended break and spend more time with his girlfriend Kim Sears.

"I haven't taken a holiday the last few years because I've gone straight from Miami (where he does his warm-winter training) to Australia (for the Open)," he is quoted as saying by The Guardian.

"This year we will take a holiday, then I'll spend a few days at home over Christmas, for the first time in a few years."

"I speak to Kim about where to go and we try to find the most convenient place for the time we've got – somewhere that's not a real hassle to get to. That, for me, is important because we do a lot of travelling. I don't really want to go somewhere where it's three or four flights away."

Murray added that although he travels around the world to play tennis, he does not get to enjoy it as a tourist.

"Yes, we travel the world, but we don't see too many of the cities when we're there," he said.

"Because the season's long, it is nice when we do get some time off to just be at home. I'm looking forward to it."

Murray lost to Novak Djokovic at the ATP World Tour Finals on Thursday.
