Blackpool fans have gathered together to raise almost £20,000 for a pensioner who has agreed to pay damages after making comments about the club's owners.

Frank Knight, 67, was threatened with legal action by chairman Karl Oyston and owner Owen Oyston after posting the comments on Facebook.

In response, the pensioner agreed to post an apology online and pay damages of £20,000 to the under-fire Oyston family.

After hearing of Mr Knight's situation, his fellow Blackpool fans decided to set up a fundraising page and they reached their £20,000 target in three days.

A statement on the gofundme.com page read: "Thank you to all Blackpool fans for digging deep, and football fans of other clubs throughout the land (and world!).

"I've been in contact with the Knight family and they want me to express their gratitude to every single one of you that's donated and promoted this campaign."

Blackpool were relegated to League One from the Championship on April 6.
