Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has helped struggling League One outfit Bury by paying some of the players' wages.
The 38-year-old, who is now a prominent TV figure on Sky Sports, is believed to have come to the aid of his hometown club, who are in danger of going out of business.
"That is typical of Gary's character," Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor told the Manchester Evening News. "I wasn't surprised to hear that about him.
"It is massive that a club like Bury have people like this. The Neville family have been an integral part of the club for a number of years now."
Bury need £1m to keep their club afloat.
