Fans attend fundraising match for injured Cambridge United supporter

Hundreds of Mildenhall residents help raise money for hospitalised Cambridge United fan Simon Dobbin by holding a fundraising match.

Hundreds of residents decided to join together in Mildenhall, Suffolk to hold a fundraising football match for injured Cambridge United fan Simon Dobbin.

The 41-year-old father of three suffered a serious head injury after reportedly getting attacked by 15 football fans in Essex following Cambridge's match against Southend United on March 21.

Mr Dobbin, who was walking with friends close to Southend's Railway pub on the day of the attack, remains in critical but stable condition at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

Daniel Herrera, who organised the fundraising match, told Cambridge News: "It's just been awe-inspiring to see the community coming together like this."

Almost £10,000 has been raised via a campaign set up by Mr Dobbins's niece Elise Thompson.
