Former Chelsea team doctor Eva Carneiro rejected a £1.2m settlement, an employment tribunal has heard.

Carneiro, who left the Premier League club in September after being dropped from first-team duties, is claiming constructive dismissal against Chelsea.

The Gibraltar-born doctor is also taking individual action against former manager Jose Mourinho for alleged sexual discrimination and victimisation.

Mourinho, who was sacked by the club in December, publicly criticised Carneiro after she went onto the pitch to treat Eden Hazard during the Blues' 2-2 draw with Swansea City on the opening day of the 2015-16 season.

At an employment tribunal in Croydon, it was claimed in documents filed by Chelsea that Carneiro was offered her job with the first team back and a £1.2m settlement, but she refused the figure and opted to resign.

"Had she not resigned, she would now be carrying on her duties as first-team doctor as she did previously," the London Evening Standard quotes the document as saying. "Instead, she adopted a provocative approach and refused to engage in steps to rebuild her relationship with Mr Mourinho.

"Moreover, she indicated a willingness to remain at Chelsea only if her wholly unrealistic and extravagant financial [and other] demands were met. The claimant has been offered her job back on more than one occasion.

"She has been made an open offer of £1.2m to settle her claims, far more than the respondents believe she could realistically recover even if she succeeded on all her claims."

Mourinho, who is now in charge at Manchester United, will give evidence in the tribunal regarding his alleged swearing when Carneiro returned to the dugout after treating Hazard.

The 53-year-old admitted in a statement that he used the Portuguese phrase "filho da puta", which means "son of a bitch/whore", but claimed that he used the term throughout the match.
