Merseyside Police have confirmed that they have dropped an investigation into an "unprovoked attack" on Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.
The alleged incident took place in the Santa Chupitos bar in Liverpool city centre in April, although it was not reported to police and only came to their attention after CCTV footage appeared on social media.
No arrests were made over the incident, and as Barkley is unwilling to chase a prosecution the investigation has now been dropped.
"The victim did not support a prosecution and therefore no further action will be taken," said a spokesman for the police.
Barkley is widely expected to leave Everton this summer after manager Ronald Koeman revealed that he has asked for a new challenge.
