The speedboat driven by David Beckham in the opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games could reportedly be sold for £250,000.

The speedboat driven by David Beckham for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in London has gone up for sale for a reported £250,000.

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder steered the 2008 'Torchbearer' Bladerunner BR RIB 35 to the Olympic Park near the end of the ceremony in the summer.

The boat has since been picked up by Bonhams and will be sold off in an auction at the Mercedes-Benz World Brooklands in Surrey this December.

"After a fantastic summer of British sporting success, Bonhams is proud to offer for sale the ultimate souvenir from the Olympic opening ceremony, what has been dubbed 'the greatest show on earth'," the London Evening Standard quotes Tim Schofield of Bonhams as saying.

It is believed that around 900m people watched the former England captain arrive at the stadium via the Thames.
