A report claims that Liverpool are working closely with world champion swimmer Mark Warnecke to fuel their Premier League title charge.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly fuelling his side's Premier League title charge with a special mineral drink that has been developed by a world champion swimmer.

The Reds have won seven of their opening eight games this season, seeing their perfect record come to a halt on Wednesday night with defeat to Chelsea in the EFL Cup.

Klopp's men lead the way in the Premier League after six rounds of matches, though, and German outlet Sport Bild suggests that former swimmer Mark Warnecke is playing an unlikely part in their title charge.

Warnecke, who became the oldest champion in his sport since 1971 when winning the 50m breaststroke title at the 2005 World Aquatic Championships at the age of 35, has developed a "secret drink" that is said to speed up regeneration after exercise.

Liverpool hope that Warnecke's work with nutritionist Mona Nemmer will help them to last the distance this season, having also recently surprised many by appointing a dedicated throw-in coach.
