Everton manager Roberto Martinez to speak at Hillsborough memorial service

HFSG chairwoman Margaret Aspinall reveals that Everton's Roberto Martinez will give a reading during the Hillsborough memorial on the 25th anniversary of the tragedy.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez will deliver a reading during this year's memorial service at Anfield marking the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

The 96 Liverpool fans who died as a result of a crush at the Hillsborough ground in 1989 are remembered every year during a service at the Reds' home stadium.

This year, the club plan to merge with their Merseyside rivals Everton on April 15 by asking Martinez to give a reading, along with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

Chairwoman of the Hillsborough Family Support Group Margaret Aspinall revealed the news and also said that this year's memorial is a "little bit different" as fresh inquests into the disaster are due to begin on March 31.

"It won't be any more poignant because it is the 25th anniversary," Aspinall told the Liverpool Echo.

"Every year is the same and every year is about remembering not only the 96 but also the survivors who suffered so much that day. Every year is poignant.

"The reason why it will be a little bit different this year is because the inquests will have started on March 31."

Aspinall's 18-year-old son James passed away in the tragedy.
