Aaron Hernandez served isolation punishment following prison altercation

Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez is moved to an isolated unit after a physical altercation with another inmate in prison.

Former NFL star Aaron Hernandez has been punished for the role which he played in a physical altercation in prison.

The former New England Patriots tight end has been moved to an isolated unit at the Bristol County House of Corrections for one month, where he will spend 23 hours a day and eat meals alone in his cell.

Hernandez must also wear waist chains and leg irons when out of his cell despite previously being allowed to be out of handcuffs at most times.

Sheriff Thomas Hodgson said via NECN.com: "When we have failures, the first thing we look at and I look at is, number one, how did this happen? And number two, how do we make sure this doesn't happen again?"

The 24-year-old is in jail having pleaded not guilty to murder following the death of Odin Lloyd last summer.
