British ex-boxer Anthony Small 'planned to fly to Syria to fight with IS'

Former British champion boxer Anthony Small planned to fly to Syria to fight with Islamic State, a court hears.

Former British boxer Anthony Small intended to fly to Syria to fight with Islamic State, a court has heard.

The 33-year-old, who became British and Commonwealth light-middleweight champion in 2009, was arrested after police found false documents in the back of a lorry driven by two other men at Dover last year.

The two men, identified as Michael Coe and Simon Keeler, both 34, as well as Mr Small have been charged with engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist attacks.

Mr Small is alleged to have published an article online called 'Attacks By Muslims In Perspective' and has been accused of posting a recording of a speech titled 'Another James Foley beheading', according to BBC News.

The court heard that Mr Small has been charged with two charges of supporting a proscribed organisation, a charge of conspiracy to possess false identity documents with improper intention and disseminating terrorist publications.

All three men deny the charges.
