Former FIFA Executive Committee member Jack Warner has been accused of taking money intended to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake in 2010.
The US Justice Department filed charges relating to £130m in bribes and kickbacks against 16 FIFA officials, including an allegation that Warner and Jeffrey Webb, who are both former CONCACAF presidents, took £500,000 intended to help the country recover after the 7.0 magnitude quake hit the Caribbean nation.
US Attorney General Loretta Lynch said at a press conference: "The betrayal of trust is truly outrageous. The scale of corruption alleged is unconscionable."
Meanwhile, the indictment read: "Certain of the defendants and their co-conspirators, including Jack Warner and Jeffrey Webb, took advantage of opportunities to embezzle or personally appropriate funds, including those intended for disaster relief."
Warner is currently fighting extradition to the United States amid accusations of wire fraud, racketeering and money laundering as part of the ongoing investigation into corruption at FIFA.
