Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba looks ahead to the future following his recovery from a cardiac arrest.

Fabrice Muamba has admitted that the past 12 months have been "emotional" for him.

The 24-year-old almost lost his life in March of this year when he suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Bolton Wanderers against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in an FA Cup tie.

He was forced to retire from the game as a result, but the former midfielder has insisted that he is now looking to the future.

"2012 has been emotional but after all I am here and still standing," he wrote on Twitter. "2013 I am ready for you. Happy new year to you all. God bless you all."

Since calling time on his career, Muamba has taken part in a number of events and functions to raise awareness of heart problems.
