Man accused of throwing bottle at Olympics to stand trial

A man accused of throwing a bottle onto the track ahead of the men's 100m final at the Olympic Games in London will stand trial in January.

Ashley Gill-Webb, who was caught on camera seconds before the starting pistol was issued to begin the race, could face punishment for a public order offence.

The 34-year-old denied at Thames Magistrates' Court in London using threatening words or behaviour at the Olympic Stadium in August, and pleaded not guilty to behaving in a disorderly fashion.

It was claimed in court that Gill-Webb had received psychiatric treatment at Bootham Park Hospital in York and was later released on September 7.
