Pope Francis tries out some basketball tricks while meeting members of the Harlem Globetrotters in Vatican City.

Pope Francis was encouraged to show off some basketball tricks when he met members of the Harlem Globetrotters team in Italy.

The troupe, who have been touring the country, met with the religious figure in St Peter's Square on Wednesday during the 78-year-old's weekly general audience.

Nathaniel 'Big Easy' Lofton, Hi-Lite Bruton and Ant Atkinson were among the players who mingled with the Pope, while Herbert 'Flight Time' Lang let the Argentine try to spin a red, white and blue ball on his finger.

The Pope was also given a number 90 'Pope Francis' jersey during the Globetrotters' visit to Vatican City.
