June Steenkamp: 'Oscar Pistorius controlling in relationship with my daughter'

June Steenkamp accuses Oscar Pistorius of being controlling in his three-year relationship with her daughter Reeva.

The mother of Reeva Steenkamp has accused her daughter's killer Oscar Pistorius of being controlling during their three-month relationship.

June Steenkamp, who recently released her book Reeva: A Mother's Story in the UK, has claimed that the six-time Paralympic champion terrorised her daughter.

Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison for the culpable homicide of Reeva, whom he shot dead through a toilet door at his home in Pretoria in the early hours of Valentine's Day last year.

June told the BBC World Service that Pistorius told Reeva how to dress, how she behaved and treated the South African model like his "arm candy".

When speaking about what it was like to sit close to Pistorius during the trial, June said: "That was scary. Because he was the one who killed her, and he hurt her and he terrorised her.

"We all love our children and we adored Reeva. And to sit next to the person who killed her, and she didn't do anything and she had no protection - horrible."

Pistorius was cleared of murder after claiming that he mistook Reeva for an intruder when he fired four gunshots through the door.
