Welsh rugby player Tom Isaacs sorry for "faggot" tweet

Welsh rugby union player Tom Isaacs says sorry after posting a 'homophobic' remark on Twitter.

Welsh rugby union player Tom Isaacs has apologised after posting a 'homophobic' remark on Twitter.

The 27-year-old, who plays for Ospreys, made the comment last week when he described performance analyst Marc Carter as a "faggot".

Isaacs's original tweet, which he later deleted, read: "Pleasantly surprised by @Sparky_Carter86 in the gym today. Looks like a faggot but can shift a bit of tin."

The Welshman has now said sorry for the remark following condemnation from gay, lesbian and bisexual organisation Stonewall Cymru, who claimed that the tweet was "deeply offensive and inappropriate".

"I'd like to offer my sincere apologies for the inappropriate language used towards personal friends on this account," Isaacs tweeted on Wednesday.

"Comments were made without considering the impact of the word used and I now realise it was wholly inappropriate. Apologies for any offence caused."

Isaacs, who has not been capped for Wales, joined Ospreys in 2009.
