Former Chelsea defender Alex has sparked controversy by making an anti-gay remark on French television.

The 31-year-old, who now plays for Paris Saint-Germain, made the comment during Canal+ show Jesus Football, which will be aired this evening.

According to La Parisien, Alex said: "God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Yves."

The defender's remarks will be shown on the same day that former Premier League footballer Thomas Hitzlsperger revealed that he is gay.
