The most expensive player in football history, Gareth Bale, has failed to make it into the top 10 of FIFA 14's rankings.

The Wales international, who completed a world-record £85m move to the Santiago Bernabeu from Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, has been placed 17th in terms of ability on the EA Sports game.

According to the Daily Mail, Bale comes below Manchester United pair Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie in the rating's list, which is topped by Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

Bale's new teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who cost Madrid £5m less than Bale's fee to buy from United in 2009, is ranked second in the list.
