Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed Colombian singer Shakira to become the most popular figure on social media site Facebook.

On the pitch in La Liga, the Portuguese star has struggled to maintain his prolific goalscoring form and looked frustrated when Gareth Bale netted just seconds after he missed his own shot in Sunday's 2-0 win over Levante.

However, off it, Ronaldo has moved to the top of the Facebook rankings with more than 107 million likes, which is around 5,000 more than Shakira, who is in a relationship with Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.

With regards to other popular athletes, Barcelona star Lionel Messi comes the closest to Ronaldo with 73 million 'likes', while David Beckham and Neymar are joint third with 52 million.

Arsenal's Mesut Ozil also makes the top-10 list with 28 million 'likes'.
