Wigan Athletic were forced to play almost three minutes of yesterday's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal with just 10 men because Franco Di Santo was caught wearing an earring.
Referee Jonathan Moss noticed the jewellery, which breaches FA rules, while Di Santo was arguing with him over a free-kick decision in the second half.
The 23-year-old forward was then ordered to leave the field and, while he and the club physio attempted to remove the ring, Arsenal put the Latics under severe pressure.
According to The Metro, Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was furious with Di Santo and has privately told the player to make sure that the incident is not repeated.
Di Santo has scored three goals in 17 Premier League appearances this season.
