The father of former Yeovil Town midfielder Stephen Maher reportedly dies in hospital after being the victim of a hit-and-run incident in Dublin.

The father of former Yeovil Town midfielder Stephen Maher has reportedly died after being involved in a hit-and-run incident in Dublin.

Eugene Maher, 62, was left injured when a motorist knocked him off his bike at a junction in Clontarf, North Dublin on Tuesday night.

According to the Irish Mirror, the person behind the wheel of the car drove away from the scene, leaving Mr Maher, who later died in hospital, in the middle of the road.

Stephen, who now plays for Drogheda United, has been mourning with his sister Lisa Marie and mother Marie in their home in Griffith Downs, Whitehall, North Dublin.
