The British Horseracing Authority has announced new, harsher penalties for the overuse of the whip on horses.
The new guidelines now restrict jockeys to using the whip seven times during a flat race and eight times during a jump race.
Another guideline limits the jockey to five whips during the final furlong, the area of the race where the whip is abused most often.
Jockeys could lose their riding fees and percentage of the prize pot if they break the new rules.
