The Charlie Appleby-trained horse was only priced at 16/1 with most bookmakers but Masar was able to stay on and claim the win by just over a length.
William Buick held off the challenge of Dee Ex Bee - who was a 20/1 shot - while Roaring Lion battled hard to claim third place.
Saxon Warrior had been the odds-on favourite but while Ryan Moore got his horse in contention, their challenge tailed off during the final two furlongs and only achieved fourth spot.
Third favourite Young Rascal only finished in seventh position.
