Day five's Olympic rowing programme cancelled in Rio due to high winds

Day five of the Olympic rowing programme is cancelled due to high winds in Rio de Janeiro.

Day five's Olympic rowing programme has been cancelled due to high winds in Rio de Janeiro.

The women's and men's quadruple sculls finals were due to be held today, but organisers have postponed the races due to wind and rain hitting the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon.

Team GB's men Jack Beaumont, Sam Townsend, Peter Lambert and Angus Groom were due to fight for a medal at 2.30pm, but they will have to wait.

World Rowing tweeted: "OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION: Racing postponed. No racing today. A new schedule will be announced soon."

Day two suffered the same fate after two boats capsized before the start of the regatta.
