Great Britain miss out on quadruple sculls medal

Great Britain miss out on a medal in the men's quadruple sculls as Germany successfully defend their title at the Rio Olympics.

Great Britain have missed out on a medal in the final of the men's quadruple sculls at the Rio Olympics.

The British quartet of Jack Beaumont, Sam Townsend, Angus Groom and Peter Lambert were bidding for their country's first rowing gold of the Games, but came home in fifth place at the Lagoa Stadium.

Defending champions Germany powered into an early lead and held off the challenge of Australia to win gold in the event for the second Games in a row.

Australia themselves crossed the line in second place, while Estonia completed the podium by picking up bronze.

Poland came home in fourth place, with Team GB more than two seconds off the medal positions.
