Gareth Ellis believes that England can make the country proud by winning the Four Nations.
The West Tigers centre will be part of the England side that takes on Australia at Wembley on Saturday.
England have failed to beat Australia since 1995 but Ellis believes that it is important for rugby league that England are successful.
"I think everyone is aware just how much the game is crying out for England to win a competition," said Ellis.
"The international game is not as strong as it used to be, but a win would definitely give the fans something to be proud of."
New Zealand and Australia have dominated recent Four Nations tournaments, with the northern hemisphere teams struggling to match their southern rivals' success.
England beat Wales 42-4 last weekend in their opening match of the 2011 Four Nations.
