Former Hull trio Martin Gleeson, James Rule and Ben Cooper are given suspensions totalling seven years by UK Anti-Doping.

Former Hull player Martin Gleeson has been banned for a doping offence by UK Anti-Doping.

Gleeson, 31, is joined by former chief executive James Rule and former conditioning coach Ben Cooper in being banned.

The suspensions, which relate to the aftermath of Gleeson testing positive for the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine in May, total seven years.

"It is the first time that tampering with the doping control process in this manner has resulted in a violation, and the first time that members of an athlete's entourage have been convicted of anti-doping rule violations in the UK," UK Anti-Doping chief executive Andy Parkinson said.

"Once again, this highlights to the sporting community that UK Anti-Doping will aggressively pursue all types of anti-doping rule violation. While all eyes are on the London Games this year, we continue to work on behalf of clean athletes in every sport."

Gleeson accepted a three-year ban, half of which has been suspended because of his co-operation, while Cooper's two-year ban has also been suspended by half.

Rule, on the other hand, will have to serve his full two-year suspension.
