Keighley Cougars player Danny Jones dies after cardiac arrest

Keighley Cougars player Danny Jones dies at the age of 29 after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch during his side's match against London Skolars.

Keighley Cougars player Danny Jones has died today as a result of suffering a suspected cardiac arrest during his side's match against London Skolars.

The Wales international collapsed on the pitch during his team's League One match at the New River Stadium and was treated at the ground before being taken to hospital by the London Ambulance service.

Sadly, the 29-year-old passed away after attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

"It is always devastating when someone so young dies in these circumstances," Rugby Football League chief operating officer Ralph Rimmer said in a statement.

"Danny was a popular and talented player, having played at the highest level with Wales and for more than 12 seasons for Keighley Cougars and Halifax."

The match between the Cougars and the Skolars was abandoned after 16 minutes as a result of the incident.
