St Helens winger Tommy Makinson has been ruled out of action for around three months with a broken leg.
The 23-year-old suffered the injury during the Saints' 32-12 win over Salford Red Devils in Super League on Friday.
Makinson, who has scored 13 tries this season, underwent surgery on Saturday.
"We are totally devastated for Tommy. He seems to have the St Helens curse that if you're playing well, you get injured," coach Keiron Cunningham is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
"We're not saying it's season over for him. He's a quick healer and could be back before the end of the year. We'll have to see."
St Helens are back in action on June 12 when Wigan Warriors make the trip to Langtree Park in Super League.
