Sydney Roosters beat Wigan Warriors to win the 2014 World Club Challenge.

Sydney Roosters have won the World Club Challenge for the first time in 11 years with a 36-14 victory against Wigan Warriors.

The Australian side punished Wigan with a quick start. Michael Jennings picked up possession and crossed unchallenged for the first try of the game, and James Maloney added the extras.

With 13 minutes played, Sonny Bill Williams barged through the Wigan defence, although Matt Bowen denied him with a last-ditch tackle.

However, the Warriors were punished for offside and Sam Moa went over. Jennings then got his second try to make it 18-0 with just 22 minutes played.

That was the way it stayed until half time, although Shaun Kenny-Dowall's effort was ruled out by the video referee.

The Warriors came out strongly in the second half, putting good pressure on the ball. Youngster Joe Burgess went over for their first try, but Matty Smith missed his kick.

However, Jennings streaked clear to complete his hat-trick for the Roosters and Maloney kicked the extras.

Wigan continued to battle hard, with Josh Charnley pouncing on a mix-up in the Roosters defence to reduce the deficit to 14.

The comeback looked on when Charnley went over again minutes later, but Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Kenny-Dowall ensured that Sydney took victory.
