Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have registered a comfortable 24-14 win over Widnes Vikings in their Super League clash.

The hosts made a bright start to the match as Richard Mathers sent a grubber kick through for Dean Collis, who chased it down to score the opening try of the night.
Widnes hit back with a try of their own just five minutes later, however, when Kevin Brown's long pass found Patrick Ah Van, who strolled over in the corner. Jack Owens was unable to add the extras, however, ensuring that Wakefield remain in the lead.
The hosts were forced to defend their line for much of the first half and did so with aplomb before Ali Lauitiiti took advantage of a slip by Danny Craven to touch down and send Wakefield into the break 12-4 up.
They extended this lead even further eight minutes after the restart when Ben Cockayne set up Frankie Mariano to go over.
The hosts then put the game beyond doubt with just under 30 minutes left as Cockayne again served as the provider, this time giving the ball to Matty Wildie who raced in to score.
Widnes were handed a glimmer of hope late on when Gareth Hock touched down, but once again Owens missed his conversion.
Rhys Hanbury touched down in the corner for Widnes late on before Owen finally hit a successful kick to make it 24-14, but it was too little too late for the visitors.
