Tony Smith: 'Warrington Wolves had to dig deep for Salford Red Devils win'

Tony Smith believes that the key to Warrington's victory away at Salford Red Devils was his side's ability to keep their cool when the going got tough.

Warrington Wolves head coach Tony Smith has hailed his side's "gutsy" display in their 34-18 victory at Salford Red Devils.

Gene Ormsby led the way by crossing over three times as the Wolves climbed up to fifth place in the Super League table.

While the showings of Ormsby and second-rower Ben Currie stood out, Smith was quick to praise the performance of his squad as a whole.

"I thought it was pretty gutsy from my boys," the Liverpool Echo quotes him as saying. "We had to really dig in because I thought Salford had a real crack at us again.

"They had a real crack at us in Round One and they've had two weeks to get ready for tonight. Fortunately my boys were able to hang in there and keep to the plan.

"We were reshuffling ourselves into different positions and all sorts. We weren't absolutely fluent but I liked the fact we didn't panic about it. We showed a fair amount of composure tonight when in other games we've probably got a bit disheartened when we haven't scored."

Next up for Warrington is a trip to St Helens next weekend.
