Bath hammer Leicester Tigers to reach Aviva Premiership final

Bath hammer Leicester Tigers 47-10 at the Recreation Ground to reach the Aviva Premiership final for the first time since 2004.

Bath have thrashed Leicester Tigers 47-10 at the Recreation Ground to set up a meeting with Saracens in the Aviva Premiership final.

The hosts took the lead with just three minutes on the clock when George Ford converted Matt Banahan's try, but Leicester recorded their first points of the evening soon after thanks to a Freddie Burns penalty.

Bath then went into overdrive as Banahan and Kyle Eastmond both went over in quick succession, with Ford adding the extras twice.

The home side were forced to finish the first half with 13 men after Anthony Watson and Leroy Houston were shown yellow cards, and Leicester took advantage in the dying seconds when Tom Youngs touched over in the corner. Burns made no mistake with the resulting conversion, helping the Tigers cut the gap to 21-10 at the break.

Burns missed a penalty at the start of the second period as Leicester looked to force the issue, though they struggled to get beyond the dogged Bath defence.

With points hard to come by compared to a free-flowing first half, Bath extended their advantage with 15 minutes left as Francois Louw set up Peter Stringer to touch down before Ford kicked over the conversion.

The hosts then wrapped up the victory late on as Ford capped a dominant performance by going over for his own try, before adding the extras to Banaham's hat-trick score and an effort from Watson.
