Alex Corbisiero "proud" to earn British and Irish Lions Test start

Alex Corbisiero says that he is pleased that he took his chances to earn selection for the British and Irish Lions side to face Australia.

England prop Alex Corbisiero has revealed his pride after being selected in the starting XV of the British and Irish Lions side to face Australia in the opening Test this weekend.

The 24-year-old was called up during the tour as a replacement for the injured Cian Healy, and started the 64-0 win over Combined Country as well as coming off the bench against the Waratahs and Brumbies.

The London Irish man, who was on international duty with the Red Rose before being drafted into the Lions squad, admits that he is delighted to have taken his chances prior to the series opener.

"I just wanted to make the most of the opportunities I was given and try to put my hand up," Corbisiero told BBC Sport.

"I have just tried to focus on my own game and make sure my set piece is accurate and work hard around the park. The coaches had a tough call because there are a lot of quality players out here. I am very excited and proud to be selected."

The Lions face Australia in the first of three Test matches in Brisbane on Saturday.
