Gloucester Rugby wrap up Pool Five with CA Brive win

Gloucester wrap up Pool Five in the Challenge Cup with a 31-20 win over CA Brive.

Gloucester Rugby kept up their perfect record in this season's European Rugby Challenge Cup with a comprehensive 31-20 win over Pool Five's bottom side CA Brive this evening.

Riaan Swanepoel and James Hook traded early penalties, before Swanepoel edged his side ahead after Gloucester were penalised for joining the ruck from the side after Dan Robson had claimed a high ball.

The away side took the lead when Matthew Kvesic went over following a powerful catch and drive, with Hook ably dispatching the conversion.

Swanepoel then pushed a penalty wide, before Robson grabbed his fourth try in five games to put Gloucester 17-6 ahead at the break.

Gloucester pulled further ahead with a penalty try on 48 minutes, before Brive bagged a penalty try of their own when their opponents were penalised for illegally halting a rolling maul.

Kvesic touched down for his second try of the night on 74 minutes, which secured the bonus point and the win for Gloucester.

However, there was still time for replacement Brive hooker Thomas Acquier to grab a consolation try in the dying seconds.

The result means that Gloucester, who were already guaranteed a home quarter-final, finish top of Pool Five with six wins from six, and 29 points from a possible 30.
