Jonathan Davies has revealed that he agreed to join Clermont Auvergne to "test" his ability.
France's Top 14 side confirmed yesterday morning that they had secured the services of the Wales international.
The 25-year-old has now broken his silence, having admitted that it was difficult for him to leave Scarlets.
"I am very honoured and very excited to have agreed to join Clermont," he said. "I felt that the time was right now to test myself rugby wise in a different environment and Clermont offers me a fresh rugby challenge I hope will improve me further as a player.
"Deciding to leave the Scarlets has been the toughest decision of I've ever made. It's certainly not one I've taken lightly and took some time to think over looking ahead in my career and the exciting opportunities available to me now."
Davies made 111 appearances for Scarlets, scoring 37 tries in the process.
