England managed to hit back from a nine-point deficit to beat Italy 15-19 in the first ever Six Nations game in the freezing conditions at Stadio Olimpico.
It was Owen Farrell who kicked England into a 6-0 lead as England dominated the opening stages.
Italy regained their composure and got a foothold in the game. Giovanbattista Venditti and Tommaso Benvenuti gave Italy a surprise 12-6 lead as they went in at half-time buoyant after their first-half comeback.
Kris Burton extended the lead to 15-6. However, Charlie Hodgson scored his second charge-down try in two games to begin the second half comeback from England.
Farrell converted and then added two penalties to put England in front. The away side edged home to secure the win that leaves them top of the Six Nations table after two games played.
