Ulster have confirmed that Ireland fly-half Paddy Jackson will have to sit out the Six Nations after dislocating his elbow.
It was reported yesterday that Jackson could miss the annual tournament and his club today confirmed the injury.
"A scan on Monday revealed that he has an unstable joint and that he will require surgery," read the Ulster statement.
"He is expected to be out of rugby for between 10 and 12 weeks."
With Johnny Sexton already missing for the start of the tournament, Ian Madigan and Ian Keatley will contest for the number 10 starting berth in Ireland's opening game of the tournament against Italy on February 7.
