The home side got off to a quick start at Welford Road, as Ed Slater found the try line two minutes into the game.
Adam Thompstone took advantage of Sam Tuitupou's sin-binning to add a second, before a couple of Nick Macleod penalties got Sale off the mark.
A series of quick passes by the visitors early in the second period set up Mark Cueto to ground the ball in the corner, getting Sharks back into contention.
The Sale resurgence continued when Charlie Ingall brought them within a penalty of Leicester's score, but the hosts forced a penalty try late on the seal the win.
