London Irish ended the Cardiff Blues' unbeaten run in the Euro Challenge Cup as they recorded a 34-23 win at the Madejski Stadium.
The Irish had a solid start to the game when they forced a penalty and Tom Homer duly obliged with a kick from distance to hand his side the lead.
However, the Blues came roaring back with a try as Cory Allen was able to touch down, with Gareth Anscombe adding the conversion.
Homer fired his side back into game with another penalty in the 23rd minute, while he continued to show his reliability to fire them ahead minutes later.
The home side extended their advantage just before the break as Andrew Fenby displayed quality in defence then attack when he made a solid tackle on the tryline, and then a minute later broke upfield to score his side's first try of the game.
However, Anscombe scored two late penalties in the half to drag his side within three points at the interval.
In the second half, the Irish put themselves back in control of the game when Shane Geraghty burst through the line and managed to cross the tryline, with Homer continuing his solid afternoon by adding the extras.
The kicking dual between Homer and Anscombe continued as the duo exchanged kicks to keep the game in the balance, but the Irish moved further ahead when Eamonn Sheridan released Fenby down the wing to score his second try of the game.
Homer failed to add the conversion, but made amends with another penalty strike from distance, only for the visitors to rally once more when Anscombe went over for a score on his own, which he duly converted, but it wasn't enough for them as the home side held out for the win.
